Key Highlights:
“Now we can have a Zoom call where clients review a digital copy of their statements, hover over balances and see detailed breakdowns in real time. We’ve had a lot of ‘oohs and aahs’ from clients.”
Steve Majoros, CPA, CycleCPA
Company Profile
Founded in 2021, CycleCPA is a forward-thinking Canadian accounting firm based in Campbell River, B.C. With a team of 14 professionals, the firm serves a specialized niche of doctors, dentists and real estate professionals, providing accounting, bookkeeping, tax reporting, payroll and time tracking services. From its inception, CycleCPA embraced a fully browser-based, paperless model, enabling it to deliver compilation, bookkeeping and tax services seamlessly across Canada.
Challenge
The accounting industry has long been constrained by traditional desktop systems, manual processes and geographic limitations, noted Steve Majoros, CPA with CycleCPA. Firms needed physical offices in multiple locations to expand their reach, while collaboration with clients was often bogged down by paper documents, scanning and version control issues.
As Majoros observed, the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the shift to digital work: “You don’t have all your clients in just one town or two towns. What COVID showed everybody is that digital is going from a nice option to have to something very practical and where we need to go.”
CycleCPA wanted to design its operations for the future, prioritizing flexibility, client accessibility and real-time collaboration from the very beginning.
Solution
CycleCPA launched as a digital-first practice built on Caseware’s cloud-based ReviewComp application. Running on the Caseware Platform, ReviewComp is designed for Canadian firms performing review and compilation engagements. It enables teams to prepare, review, and finalize financial statements collaboratively and securely from any location. The solution automates data linking and referencing, reducing manual errors, while its built-in workflow, checklists, and digital sign-off features streamline the entire engagement process. With integrated client collaboration tools, ReviewComp helps firms work more efficiently and deliver higher-quality results without the limitations of traditional desktop software.
ReviewComp’s browser-based system allowed the CycleCPA team to prepare and review engagements simultaneously, collaborate directly within the file using live queries, and eliminate paper-based workflows with digital signatures and online financial statement reviews.
To ensure a smooth transition and build team confidence, CycleCPA developed a structured onboarding approach using training or “dummy” files that mirrored real client engagements. This allowed new staff to practice key workflows, gain familiarity with ReviewComp’s interface, and receive feedback before handling live files. “We created dummy training files so new staff could get reps before working on real engagements,” Majoros explained. “They realized it’s just like what they did before. It just looks different. That made the transition quite easy.”
Clients immediately embraced the digital experience: “Now we can have a Zoom call where clients review a digital copy of their statements, hover over balances and see detailed breakdowns in real time,” Majoros noted. “We’ve had a lot of ‘oohs and aahs’ from clients.”
Results
The adoption of ReviewComp as CycleCPA’s foundation has generated significant efficiency, control, and quality improvements across the firm:
“We’re preparing financials faster, without check-in/check-out issues,” Majoros explained. “The built-in controls prevent formula errors and the ability to manage everything from one platform has been a huge win.”
The Future
For CycleCPA, basing its operations on ReviewComp was a commitment to building efficiency and scalability through digital innovation. With no geographic limitations, the firm’s client base now spans across Canada, and its team is free to focus on advisory work and client relationships instead of administrative follow-up.
The CycleCPA team approached cloud technology not as an add-on, but as the foundation of how modern firms should operate.
“If you want to go digital, it’s simple — unplug the printer,” Majoros said. “It’s a mindset thing.”
CycleCPA proves that a tech-forward firm can deliver national-scale service without compromising collaboration, quality or human connection.
